Psalm 16:11
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy:
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
King David knew the lord in a personal way. He understood his covenant rights with God very well.
He knew how to repent, how to ask God for direction and how to encourage himself in the Lord. He knew that there was life after death.
David faced many dangers and crisis in his life. Many times people tried to kill him. He faced enemies that were bigger and stronger and more numerous. There were terrible tragedies and strife within his own family.
But even from a young age David learned to turn to God. He developed a relationship with God that allowed him to receive from God.
He saw that with God, there would be a way. No matter what the circumstance and how impossible it looked, God would make a way for him.
David learnt that God had rewards for His people. He was given the revelation that the fullness of joy was in God’s presence. He came to see that by being in God’s presence “at his right hand” was to experience fulfilment in life and even pleasures, bliss, and the contentment, that people crave for in this life.
Psalm 16:11
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy:
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Love is the mark of a Christian.
A lawyer asked Jesus what he had to do to inherit eternal life. Jesus asked him what he thought.
Luke 10:25-28.
So he answered and said, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ (Deuteronomy 6:5) and ‘your neighbour as yourself.’” (Leviticus 19:18)
Jesus confirmed the Old Testament when he agreed with the lawyer that he had to love God with all his being and love your neighbour as yourself.
In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians 5:25 he says ‘Husbands love your wives. ‘
I think the love and respect Christian husbands and wives have for each other is a very important witness to people of other faiths or no faith.,
Love is the mark of a Christian and so is respect for others. The respect that a believer shows in all their relationships will be a witness to everyone. Christians should have an attitude of co-operation with others. Christian societies should demonstrate this love and co-operation.
Jesus confirmed that we are to love God with all that we are and love our neighbour as yourselves if we are to experience eternal life with God.
Luke 10:27
So he answered and said, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ (Deuteronomy 6:5) and ‘your neighbour as yourself.’” (Leviticus 19:18)
Romans 3:23 says
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
The Bible says we’ve all sinned. We may as well admit it and ask God for forgiveness. We have an absolute need for a saviour and we can’t make it right with God by ourselves.
We can repent but we can’t pay the ransom for our own sin. Only Jesus can do that for us.
Human nature is flawed, we fail morally and we can’t redeem ourselves. We have to depend on God to forgive us.
Our dependence on God for forgiveness and right standing with Him should keep us humble and more patient with others. It is emotionally healthy and spiritually necessary to admit our faults and repent.
I believe God is waiting for us to repent and wants to forgive us.
Romans 3:23 says
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 5:12
Therefore, just as through one-man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.
You know as Christians, one of the strongest beliefs we have is that we will experience a personal resurrection and rise from the dead.
The Bible teaches that we will be given a glorified body and that Christians will live forever with in the presence of God who loves us.
The only reason human beings physically die, is because sin entered the world through Adam’s rebellion against God. After Adam sinned, we all sinned, and death will touch us all.
Death wasn’t in God’s plan for us originally. We were meant to be His partners in creation as Adam was for a time and then God would gather us to Himself. But sin changed all that and made it impossible.
Fortunately, we know that there is a spiritual remedy to sin and death. Jesus has paid the price for our sin, to set us free from the power of death.
Praise God believers don’t have to fear death because we will not stay in the grave, we will be raised up in a glorious body.
Romans 5:12
Therefore, just as through one-man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death, spread to all men, because all sinned.
Romans 10:9
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Being saved from God’s judgment on sin and being born into the family of God depends on who and what you believe in your heart and then what you say.
There are two simple steps to being born spiritually into the family and kingdom of God.
1 say that Jesus is Lord and God and
2 believe in your heart that God the Father raised Him from the dead.
When anyone says Jesus is God and believes that He rose from the dead the Bible says that person is a believer and the Blood of Jesus has paid for their sins. They are born for the second time, this time spiritualy, into the family of God and will live forever with Jesus in heaven.
Romans 10:9
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
1 Corinthians 2:9
Eye has not seen nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man
the things which God has prepared for those who love Him
In this scripture the apostle Paul referred to Isaiah 64:4.
We don’t worship God for nothing. There are rewards for being in a relationship with God. In this life we have to live by faith not seeing the God we worship. We believe before we see the answer to our prayers.
When our bodies die and the real us, our spirits go to be with the Lord. Our glorified body will be raised up later. We will see, hear and experience things that are impossible to imagine or describe in our earthly language.
However long and hard the search for God is, however much opposition we experience, God’s super abundant reward is extreme and forever.
There are many benefits and advantages for walking with the Lord in this life but the best is yet to come.
In 1 Corinthians 2:9
Eye has not seen nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.
2 Corinthians 5:
1 For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, …
Believers should be confident in the knowledge that even though one day we will physically die, God will give us a glorified eternal body. That’s one of the many advantages of being a Christian we can have peace about what happens after death.
We all need to prepare ourselves for life after death by developing our relationship with God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We do this by getting to know what the Word of God says. That way we won’t miss God and we won’t be afraid.
The apostle Paul compared our earthly bodies to a tent and our resurrected glorified bodies to a house. A tent is a temporary shelter. A house will last and last. It’s substantial, it’s valuable, something to be admired.
The body we can see isn’t going to last but God has a glorified body for us that is of a higher quality to the body we inhabit here on earth.
It’s good to maintain our health and to look our best but give the glory to God and be ready to move on by meditating on God’s Word for our future life.
2 Corinthians 5:
1 For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, …
2 Corinthians 5:
6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord.
7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.
The apostle Pauls wants us to remember that while we are here on earth in our earthly body we are absent from the Lord. We are absent from the throne room of God.
It’s unfortunate that we can be so concerned by our busy lives that we can neglect our eternity. It’s very easy to get our priorities wrong.
Most of the time we are thinking about what we can see but if we can see it, it’s subject to change and will eventually pass away.
We have to walk and live by faith in this life to spend the next life with God. We have to believe God’s word and put it first in our lives. When we do that a lot of things fall into place for us.
When we put our relationship with God and His Word first, our values and priorities change and become more like God’s. We see our lives from God’s perspective, from eternity. That way we know what should be really important to us now.
God wants us to be confident and at peace about life after death. We will grow in that confidence and peace by believing His word and acting on it.
2 Corinthians 5:
6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord.
7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.
John 20:31
but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
When Jesus rose from the dead John recorded the supernatural signs that happened. Jesus would suddenly appear to them, He could enter into a locked house and eat in front of them. He was very much alive in a physical but glorified body.
The apostle Thomas wasn’t there the first time Jesus appeared to the disciples and he questioned that it was really Him. Jesus appeared again when Thomas was present and told him to put his finger where the nails had been in His hand and then for Thomas to put his hand in Jesus side where the spear had opened it.
This was the same Jesus Thomas knew. Now He has been revealed as the Christ, the Son of God who had risen from the dead.
When anyone believes Jesus is the God who saves from sin, they are given the gift of eternal life.
In the Bible the name of a person means the nature of the person. The name Jesus means “Yahweh The Lord saves”. When we believe in Jesus we are saved from sin and its punishment and redeemed into a right relationship with God beginning in this life and lasting for eternity.
John 20:31
