John 18:37
You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.
When Jesus stood before the judgement seat of Pilate He didn’t speak to defend His life. He stated that He was on the earth to bear witness to the truth.
How many of us have made bearing witness to the truth the priority of our lives? Jesus wants us to bear witness to Him as the one true God and also be truthful in our daily lives.
Psalm 51:6 says ‘You desire truth in the inward parts,’.
We should develop a desire to be truthful and to know the truth. If we have a godly desire for the truth, we will have a godly revulsion of deception and have greater discernment to recognize it.
IF we order our lives according to the truth of God’s Word, we’ll make some adjustments in our thinking and our values that will please God and lead others to want more of the truth in their lives as well. God’s Word is truth.
John 18: 37
You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.
John 20:31
but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
When Jesus rose from the dead John recorded the supernatural signs that happened. Jesus would suddenly appear to them. He could enter into a locked house and eat in front of them. He was very much alive in a physical but glorified body.
The apostle Thomas wasn’t there the first time Jesus appeared to the disciples and he questioned if is was really Him. Jesus appeared again when Thomas was present and told him to put his finger where the nails had been and then for Thomas to put his hand in Jesus side where the spear had opened it.
This was the same Jesus Thomas knew. Now He has been revealed as the Christ, the anointed one, the Son of God who had risen from the dead.
When anyone believes Jesus is the God who saves from sin, they are given the gift of eternal life.
In the Bible the name of a person means the nature of the person. The Name of God is the nature of God. The name Jesus means “Yahweh The Lord saves”. When we believe in Jesus we are saved from sin and its punishment and redeemed into a right relationship with God beginning in this life for eternity.
John 20:31
but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
Acts 10:38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil for God was with Him.
Jesus was born into this world for a purpose, He “went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil for God was with Him.”
This scripture tells us about the nature and heart of God, He wants to do good and heal all who are oppressed by the devil. Jesus had to be anointed and empowered with the Holy Spirit to be able to help people deeply and so do we. We are wrestling with the same devil He did and Jesus relied on the Holy Spirit’s help.
The Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 6:12
For we don’t fight against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
The challenges and crises we face in this life have a spiritual origin and God wants to help us in every way. He wants to help us get to the spiritual root of the problem and deal with that to make our lives better.
It would help us if we knew God better. We can’t afford to be spiritually naïve, that’s why people are being defeated in life. We need to push back against that demonic influence with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 10:38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil for God was with Him.
Ephesians 3:20
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
God wants us to live by faith and it’s a mistake to think we’ve got to do something only by our own ability and resources. That’s a misunderstanding of how God wants help His people in this life. Once we become believers God wants us to ask and believe Him for help. God wants us to believe His promises so He can work supernaturally on our behalf.
When we ask according to His Word as He says in this passage:
• He is able
Nothing is impossible to God.
• to do exceedingly abundantly
Remember God is infinitely knowledgeable, and infinitely powerful.
• above all that we ask or think
The most we can ask for or imagine is just the beginning for the Lord.
• according to the power that works in us.
Living by faith in this life is not about what we can get done by our ability or resources. That would limit God. He wants us to believe in Him and His ability and the more we do that the more He can do.
Ephesians 3:20
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
Colossians 1:
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the first born over all creation.
16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones ordominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
Jesus is the image of the unseen God and the devil is trying to deceive people that He’s not. The apostle John called Jesus the Word in the beginning of his gospel. Jesus is the most specific revelation of God we have.
You could accurately interchange the name Jesus for the Word in the beginning of John’s gospel and it would read.
John 1:
1 In the beginning was Jesus, and Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him,
and without Him nothing was made that was made.
3 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.”
Jesus was responsible for creating the physical universe, all the laws that govern it and all spiritual beings that are invisible in the physical world. He created them and is Lord over them.
Jesus lived before all creation existed and through Him all humanity is reconciled to God through Him.
Colossians 1:
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the first born over all creation.
16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
Colossians 1:19
For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell.
Human beings are a needy bunch. We’ve got a lot of needs in this life. People are looking for fulfilment, to be filled up because there’s something missing.
We are meant to ask the Father in Jesus name for everything we need. We are meant to depend on God and use our faith to receive whatever it is.
When people don’t know they can go to God but leave Him out, they put themselves under pressure. Some try comfort food, alcohol and substances, you name it people try it.
Sometimes people look for love at a superficial level and the real person, underneath the skin - is different to who they look like. Remember “For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell.”
Everything we need, He’s got it. If we need direction, healing, help in our relationships if we need a miracle, He’s got it.
We need something all through life. I believe we got into trouble when we didn’t go to Jesus for what we needed or we missed the direction we were given.
I’m sure Jesus understands when we repent. The letter to the Hebrews 4:15 says Jesus is able to sympathise with us. I repent when I’ve missed God. We all miss God at some stage so we should admit it to ourselves and to God. That’s a spiritually and emotionally healthy thing to do.
Colossians 1:19
For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell.
Colossians 1:20
and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
God the Father wants to reconcile everyone (all things) by Jesus. Jesus was prepared to pay the price for our reconciliation. You know when family members don’t speak with each other, when children are estranged from their parents, it’s a tragedy.
God never wanted to be separated from us and once sin happened with Adam in the garden, the Father Son and Holy Spirit always wanted to be reconciled with humanity. There is a depth to God's desire to be reconciled that we don’t usually appreciate. People outside the family of God certainly don’t appreciate it.
Everything we need is inside the family through Jesus and some people are standing outside wanting.
God, the Father, God the Son, Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit wanted so much to be reconciled with you and I that they were prepared for Jesus to pay for our sin with His blood. This shows us the heart of God, that the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit were willing to sacrifice that much for us.
We often take this for granted. We think we’re doing God a favour by going to church. We’re just responding to Jesus’s invitation.
It is right to be humbly grateful.
Colossians 1:20
and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
1 John 4:8 & 11
8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
The Bible says God is love - it doesn’t say God is selfish. Because God is love He wants us to treat others with love.
Because God is love He wants us to vote for politicians who have policies that will put the love of God into practice. I encourage you to examine the policies of the political parties in the light of the love of God. If you can’t see enough of God’s love in those policies, for example, affordable housing, health care and education, contact the politicians and let them know you want more of God’s love in their policies or you can’t vote for them
1 John 4:
8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
